I think some of the possibilities you see with Twitter can also support the reason to distinguish it from other "social networks" as we know them.  The aspect of geolocation (as is the case with BrightKite) is also something I'm really looking forward to watching. It is certainly a social network. But more importantly, it is a communication technology that is being built on in many ways. Its strength is it's stream of data. How that data is harnessed by different groups will be very interesting.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Currently it's mostly being used for personal communication. But imagine traffic lights tweeting out license plates of speeders to cops? Or coupons being tweeted to you based n your location?&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;As a social networking tool, I love the briefness of the tweets. That lets you connect with more people, very quickly.
